Athens Drive Jag Club Meeting Sept 14, 2015
Board Reports:
Have received 99 responses from the survey; in general, 50% of the respondents said they were a little familiar with the Jag Club or not familiar at all; many respondents said they didn’t understand the purpose of the Jag Club and/or that it needs more of a presence, etc.; most respondents want information through email or Twitter; can we have the athletic link on the school website go straight to the Jag Club website?; respondents said that Jag Club should be more visible at meetings and school events
Update on Pride in the Drive; communicated about it but have not put a plan in place
Friends of the Jags and new sponsors—Moe’s wants to be a big sponsor this year; TMac; Hendrick Chevrolet; have new sponsors for basketball scoreboards too; need to figure out banners for sponsors; also need to recognize Old Tyme Barbecue (Terri has asked for a logo)
Trophy cases—one is in progress and one is not; one has been caulked and painted; other case has a water leak, so until the leak is fixed, that case is on hold
Basketball pads—try to go through Wake County to get funding; every other school has wall pads; this is a safety issue; shouldn’t these pads come out of the school budget? (Jill to email Hedrick)
Softball and concessions— softball needs a building that will accommodate its needs; found a building that is 16 by 24 at Lowes that will meet softball needs; will need to grade and level ground; suggested that the coach submit a facility modification plan to Wake County; whether the Jag Club will pay for the building in whole or in part will be determined once the cost of the building is known; unlikely that the county will run water and sewer to the new building; currently there is approximately $1000 left over that could be applied to this building; the idea of steel containers (introduced last month) was explored, but the cost to have a crane get the container into place was too high to make the idea feasible
Stephanie and Lee Ann have been working on the budget; Stephanie was planning to present an update but was unable to be present
Membership—have sold 337 sports passes and 11 memberships so far; last year about the same number of passes were sold; have deposited $15K+ into the accounts to be allocated between the Jag Club and Alvin’s membership fund
Ways and Means—have the opportunity to order spiritwear through a local vendor, so we won’t have to stock all the items; will soon have an orange tie-dyed shirt; Jody will still do Restaurant Nights (Moe’s, Chick Fil-A, etc.)
Old business—Oct. 10th Southern Twilight 5K will be cancelled; we needed to have 75 entrants by September 15th, but to date we only have 8; these events typically take 9 to 12 months to plan, so we didn’t budget enough time to have this event this fall; the sponsor is willing to try this again, and we can plan to have the run on our school property if we want
Concession stand—football concession needs a fair amount of help (teens need volunteer hours for NHS, Key Club, etc.); send email to Jamie Summers (jamisum@gmail.com); concessions make about $2500 per game; it’s the same people who volunteer for most of the games.
School update–tailgate for Homecoming (Student Council will sponsor, and we will help) on Sept 25; Moe’s will be selling food at the tailgate; school pictures on Sept 21; Celebrate My Drive—schools with the most votes can win money (top 50 schools can win $25K); Alvin has offered to register the school if we want to do Celebrate the Drive again this year; decided to try it again
General update—a teacher brought up the idea of a student Booster Club; not quite sure how this would differ from Student Council (might have one or two students on our Jag Club Board?)
VP of Concessions—Terri Voltz has volunteered to do this again; Patrick Bunch made a motion to approve and Marlene Schneider seconded the motion
Can’t hold a specific position in Jag Club for more than 2 years; if anyone is interested in a Board position for next year, let Jill Tate know
Last year the Jag Club had a Christmas social in December instead of a meeting; it was a lot of fun for those who came; anyone else add anything?; someone asked if there was a breakdown of accounts (list of accounts and what comes out of each account)
Drawing for Publix gift card? a slip of paper was drawn randomly from the container; the winner is Natalie Pope.
Meeting adjourned at 8:15
