Still need volunteers to head concessions and membership
Freshman Orientation Camps (7:30 – 11:30 a.m. on 8/6 and 8/17)—Alvin will present and the Jag Club will do a 5-minute intro; Jill needs someone to speak on August 6
Fall sports picture day on August 11; a schedule for pictures will be posted
Fall sports night on August 13 at 5:30 p.m.: Alvin goes over rules and regulations and then teams break out by sport to go over team specific needs, etc.; Jag Club usually organizes a big kickoff dinner; need to decide whether we will organize a dinner that night or maybe just cook burgers and hotdogs; don’t think we’ll have access to the cafeteria or the gym
Cleanup day for Williams Stadium and concession stand: TBA
Pep rally and tailgate on Friday, August 28 from 4 – 6:30 p.m.; the church will sponsor a pep rally for ADHS before first football game; Jill is working with the band and Student Council to communicate this and make it happen
Athens 5K Fun Run on Saturday, October 10; Jag Club needs to provide 20-30 volunteers to work the event; the 5K is open to the public; Dr. Hedrick wants to make it an annual event and to move it to ADHS property starting next year; Jennifer Martin is committee chair for this event; this will probably be a twilight run (late afternoon/early evening); entry fee around $30?
Mission statement update proposed
Board reports:
Stadium—ice machine is now on campus; the smaller pavers will now be red brick pavers (as opposed to concrete) and will cost an additional $200 (approximately) from budget, but the new pavers will support engraving; new drainage system is complete; currently putting in new bleachers; lights are up; storage shed is cleared out; building a new storage area which will be over 1000 square feet (the old storage area will be demolished); August 7 is the deadline to finish resurfacing the old track prior to the first football game
AD Report—golf schedule is incomplete; hope to have field ready (sod didn’t take) at Williams Stadium; cannot have a scrimmage on the 13th; October 30th is the Powderpuff Game?; 6 home games and Powderpuff; cheerleading competition (ADHS and Wake County) here—will provide concessions income and be a big fundraiser for us; Jag Club will run concession stand; Pop Warner uses our stadium—Pop Warner has bowl games (get gate and concessions dollars if we get this bid); still looking for the girls’ JV lacrosse coach; trophy cases—need to be painted, etc.; need to get the gate for the buses fixed; immediate needs—storage space for softball (and all sports while new storage space is being built); new gator; new lawnmower can wait until spring; could look into shipping containers—if they have a decent lock, you need a torch to get into them; invest in one steel container to store new gator, etc.
ADHS needs a mascot that everyone uses; looking into the use of a jaguar like the one on the wall (put on a sign to hang at the stadium); graphic artist can cut and paste digital picture taken; need an easy 4-color transfer for spirit wear, etc. (for a graphic image) (i.e., need to dumb it down); need interlocking AD for some things; could the graphic arts department here in the school to work on the new mascot?
Basketball Coach Robbie St John—submitted an order for new basketballs; basketballs were lost/misplaced this summer; ordered 15 new basketballs (need 10) and a ball cage to lock them up ($602.65 total); volleyball needs a cage also (one of the locks broken); basketball and volleyball equipment not in good condition; motion to get basketballs (Motion made, Terri Voltz 2nd) Motion carried unopposed.
Online donations site—reaches out of town people; no fuss fundraiser; Byron will meet with us; his company takes 20% (Huddle—can do the same thing, without losing the 20%)
Coaches’ clinic—at the clinic, saw new ideas for tumblers that we can sell (can design your own if you want) as well as new ideas for spiritwear; need to have spiritwear set out for parents’ night; Jag Club needs to work closely with Student Council (Sarah Cook, President) and the band
Alvin asked if someone had a digital camera and could walk around the campus to take photos; Alvin mentioned that the cheerleaders need new mats (at around $400 or $450 each, for a total of approximately $2000); he asked if the Jag Club would pay for the mats initially (and be repaid after the cheerleader competitions); Tony has one or two mats he will donate; Jag Club agreed to pay for the new mats upfront
