Jag Club Meeting: Monday, February 1, 2016
Meeting began at 7:05.
Treasurer’s Update:
- We are up to date as of 12/31/15
- Please check over the team accounts to make sure they are OK
Average Joe Promo (potential fundraiser):
- $20 per card sold; half of the proceeds go to Average Joe and the other half goes to the team selling the cards; Average Joe collects its half of the proceeds at the end of the selling season
- There is no risk to the team selling the cards (no upfront cost); team sets a goal for number of cards sold and the team is responsible for selling half that number
- The cards have a number of local restaurants on them and each restaurant has a promotion (ex., 15% off total sale, etc.); the card is good for a year
Stadium Update:
- New baseball scoreboard going up
- Softball shed completed and permitted; ADHS has 60 days to caulk and paint it prior to Wake County signing off
- Grandstands are almost complete
- Need to get water to bathrooms and concession area
Ways and Means:
Spring golf event:
- Tentatively scheduled for April 25, which is a teacher workday
- Lochmere Golf Club is booked
- Ruckus has not gotten back to us yet about food
- Committees needed for setup, silent auction, golf teams, etc.
- Marlene mentioned that there could be a conflict with the 4/25 date, as the boys’ golf team might have a tournament that day; might need to reconsider a date in June after school gets out for the year
Communications: No update
Facilities: Softball shed finished
Membership: No update
Athletic Director:
- Getting ready to kick off spring sports (practice starts on 2/15)
- A number of the teams have to practice at Centennial; because of this, we have agreed to maintain Centennial’s practice fields
- Spring sports might need to use the restrooms in the school building if the water is not turned on yet (or rent a port-a-john)
- Need a JV women’s softball coach; if anyone knows of any parents, etc. who would consider coaching, let Mr. Thompson know
- Need to purchase a clock for the lower gym
- Would like to restructure locker rooms at minimum cost
- Need a reel mower versus a rotary mower to mow Bermuda grass; reel mowers cost $16 – $17K
- Cost for a bus–$30K+ for one that is refurbished
- Cheerleading competition went well; competition grossed about $21K, but that needs to be split with Broughton and Enloe; after expenses, we probably netted $4K or more; during the competition, the fire alarm went off in the school, which caused problems; Key Club students worked concessions and did a great job
President’s Update:
- Swim team did well in a conference meet—Athens finished 3rd (men) and 5th (women); Coach Barry won SWAC Men’s Coach of the Year
- Countertop in sports med room is cracked and needs to be fixed
- Spring Signing Day is Wednesday, February 3; some individuals will be signing for volleyball and soccer
- Freshman Curriculum Night is Wednesday, February 3; Jag Club will have a table in front of the auditorium; we need to encourage incoming parents to get involved with the Jag Club
- Blue Crew is now the student booster club (OK’d by Mr. Katz); Mr. Seese will be heading it up; intent is to improve school spirit via the whole student body; club will have input on spirit wear design, etc.
Proposed Casino Night:
- Adult only evening for staff, admin and parents (including alumni)
- To be held offsite (potentially at Homewood Suites near MacGregor) and thus we will be able to serve alcohol
- Heavy hors d’oeuvres
- Would like to target 300 attendees
- Quoted $4600 for tables, dealers and a DJ
- Need sponsors for the event; also need a big planning committee
- Next steps to finalize a date (third weekend in May?) and venue (Homewood Suites?)
Meeting adjourned at 9:10.
